cfUniForm v4.1 - Minor Release Update to Uni-Form 1.4

I just released cfUniForm 4.1 on RIAForge. As far as cfUniForm is concerned, this is a minor release done for the specific purpose of updating cfUniForm with the latest release (1.4) of the Uni-Form markup and CSS spec. On the other hand, for those who have been seeking themed CSS with cfUniForm, you will be happy to know that this release is for that exact purpose. [More]

jQuery's star rating plugin makes it simple to add a "Rate Me" interface to your application. Combine it with cfUniForm v4.0, and now it's ridiculously simple to add a star rating field (or ten) to any form.

One of the improvements in the latest cfUniForm release is a change in behavior for the 'pluginSetup' attribute on the field tag. Even though this change does not break any old code, I still wanted to write a brief explanation of what the change is, why I made it, and how to make use of it. [More]

I sometimes get asked questions like "hey, man, how can I right-align labels with cfUniForm?" or "how can I change colors?", etc. The answer is: override the CSS! That's the entire purpose of Cascading Style Sheets. Here's a quick example of how to override a couple of default behaviors with the Uni-Form specification (which is what cfUniForm is a wrapper for). [More]

cfUniForm v3.5 Released

I have just released cfUniForm v3.5, which can be downloaded from the riaforge project page. This latest version includes a couple of minor bug fixes as well as a new 'enctype' attribute for your form tag, which allows you to create your own upload fields without relying on the built-in type="file" field.

Be sure to check out the new multiple uploads demo as well as the updated FAQs page.

A big "thank you!" goes to Byron Raines for providing the use case for the multiple uploads (one I had not thought of) as well as submitting a couple of patches for bugs (related to providing an ID for individual fields).

To use them, simply copy the folder to your CFEclipse install and refresh your snippets in CFE.

cfUniForm - FAQs and Request for Live Examples

 cfUniForm FAQs

In most cases, the questions that I receive about cfUniForm are already answered by looking at the demo code in the cfUniForm demos section, but as cfUniForm has grown, there seem to be more and more questions coming in that are not explicitly answered in the demos. So, today I added an FAQ page. If you have questions about how to use the library, I recommend a 5-step process to finding the answer:

Look at the demos and the demo code

Read the FAQs

Read the "use example" comments at the top of each file in the library

Read my blog

Send me your question via the contact page

Live Examples?

I have received a number of cfUniForm examples from different people that are quite cool. They could serve as excellent examples of not only cfUniForm, but of the various use cases that developers encounter in their day-to-day work and of the mad skillz and creativity used in providing a solution to the use case. Unfortunately, many of them are "behind closed doors" and/or still in development and not yet ready for public consumption. If you have public-facing examples of cfUniForm-powered forms that you would like to show off, submit the URLs and I'll add them to the list in the demos section.

It figures that a couple hours after I release cfUniForm v3.0 that jQuery would announce their 1.3.2 release. As a result, I have released cfUniForm v3.1, which now includes jQuery 1.3.2.

As always, be sure to check out the demos and download the latest.

During this time there have been updates to the Uni-Form markup/CSS as well as to jQuery and several of the integrated plugins. In his demo, Michael shows how easy it is to use some of the special rules options for jQuery's validation plugin with your cfUniForm-powered forms.
