cf.Objective() 2013 Call for Speakers

The cf.Objective() Content Advisory Board have just officially opened the Call for Speakers for the 2013 edition of The World's Only Enterprise ColdFusion Conference. Last year we had speakers from all around the world: USA, Canada, England, Ireland, Switzerland, France, Germany, Australia (and probably others that I'm not remembering) were all represented. This is the year for YOU to speak!

Thank You, cfUniForm...

This probably comes as no surprise, but it has been many years since I have written a form without the aid of cfUniForm. Today, however, I had a need to throw together a ridiculously quick and simple upload form on a project that only has this one form on it. Hardly enough to warrant adding cfUniForm into the mix. Or so it seemed.

cfUniForm v4.6.0 - IMPORTANT PrettyComments XSS Vulnerability Fix Release

IMPORTANT: If you have textareas in any of your forms, you will want to upgrade!

A big THANK YOU! to Marc Esher for identifying an XSS vulnerability with the plugin that cfUniForm had previously used for "expandable" textareas. Marc contacted the author of the PrettyComments jQuery plugin repeatedly in an effort to help the author resolve this issue. However, the author gave no indication that he was interested in a fix. Because of this, cfUniForm now uses Elastic for expandable textareas.

Mura CMS Mailing List Import: How to Avoid a PATH Error

Before I get into the meat of the post, I have to give some major props to the folks at Blue River. In no particular order, Christine, Sean, Matt, Malcom, Steve, and Eddie put together an absolutely awesome conference, MuraCon 2011 last week in beautiful Sacramento, CA. For a first-year conference, I think MuraCon knocked it out of the park. Here's to hoping for a MuraCon 2012!

Just one request for 2012, guys: Can we do it one week earlier so I don't have to miss another football game/band performance? I thoroughly enjoyed hanging with you guys, but I've been in Texas for over a decade now, and, well, from late August until just before Christmas, Friday Night is meant for the Lights! :D

This is totally basic stuff for those who are use to a Tomcat setup, but for those who are new (or relatively new, like myself) to Tomcat, it's critical information. Hopefully by posting it I will do two things:

Help someone else

cfUniForm v4.5 - Now on GitHub

After being prodded by several folks for over a year now to move cfUniForm to a public repository, and specifically GitHub, I am pleased to announce that I have finally taken the Git plunge. Git is a dramatic departure from SVN, but it is oh so good in oh so many ways. I feel like I am barely beginning to scratch the surface in git goodness, and can't wait to move *everything* to git.

For now, though, I just wanted to make sure and send out a quickie post to let everyone know that cfUniForm v4.5 is officially available now, and that you can grab it from RIAForge or from GitHub.

Hopefully I can find (make!) some time to get some more detailed posts out in the next few days/weeks, but for now, take a look at my Forms That Don't Suck presentation and demo code, as they contain all kinds of goodies not previously available.

Forms That Don't Suck - Preso & Code (Finally)

Wow. I, ummm, don't even know what to say. I cannot believe it is July already. The last few months have been a massive whirlwind of activity around the Quack household: remodel, band booster stuff, conferences, presentations, graduation, new job... the list seems to never end. Unfortunately, I have been so busy and have totally last track of time, and never remembered to force myself to sit down and get my presentation and demo code ready to distribute. Oh well, better late than never, I suppose.

A few months back Aaron Greenlee released his Hoth project, which is an exception tracking/reporting application for CFML. I've been wanting to find time (let me know if you've ever found time) to take a look at it, but haven't had a chance. Until now, that is.

I am Attending OpenCF Summit

Living here in West Texas is kind of remarkable in a lot of ways. The savage beauty of the desert plains is remarkable. But nothing is more remarkable than the fact that out here you are 6 hours from anywhere, yet 3 hours from absolutely nowhere.

Albuquerque - 6 hours
El Paso - 6 hours
San Antonio - 6 hours
Austin - 6 hours
Dallas/Ft. Worth - 6 hours
Oklahoma City - 6 hours
But drive 3 hours in any direction, and you're still in the middle of absolutely nowhere.

Humbled and Honored: Speaking at cf.Objective() 2011

Hot off the presses (I think it's still hot after a couple of hours?) is the schedule for cf.Objective() 2011. Over its history, cf.Objective() has proven itself as the leader in quality speakers and content. This year's schedule is just over the top. Unbelievable.

I am deeply humbled and honored to be among such a distinguished group of speakers. While I am no stranger to public speaking, this will mark my first presentations at a programming-related conference. I hope to not drag down the reputation of the other speakers. At least not too much. :-)

cfUniForm v4.1 - Minor Release Update to Uni-Form 1.4

I just released cfUniForm 4.1 on RIAForge. As far as cfUniForm is concerned, this is a minor release done for the specific purpose of updating cfUniForm with the latest release (1.4) of the Uni-Form markup and CSS spec. On the other hand, for those who have been seeking themed CSS with cfUniForm, you will be happy to know that this release is for that exact purpose.

Combine it with cfUniForm v4.0, and now it's ridiculously simple to add a star rating field (or ten) to any form.
