Tip Of The Hat to Matt Levine and Sava CMS

Posted on November 7, 2008 at 2:01 AM in ColdFusion

As some of you may have read, I was really pissed off the other day. Today, however, I must admit that I'm pretty damn happy.

After posting my rant the other day - the point of which still remains valid (don't change the user's environment without letting them know), one of the comments came from none other than the team lead for the software that instigated my rant, Sava CMS. As I pointed out in my reply to the comment, I was extremely pleased with the response that I received. I honestly expected either no response at all, or a very harsh, negative response. Instead, I was met with an incredibly humble, dignified and professional response.

Today I had the great pleasure of working very closely with Matt Levine in the troubleshooting of the issue that spurred my rant. I am extraordinarily pleased to report that together we were able to diagnose and pinpoint the exact issue, and Matt has already added the solution to SVN.

I want to publicly apologize to Matt Levine and the Sava CMS team for what likely seemed as an overly harsh post. I also want to publicly thank Matt for his professionalism, and for taking the time to respond in such a dignified manner to my comments, as well as the time that he put in while working together toward a solution.

I also want to go on record as saying that I am now an avid supporter of Matt Levine and Sava CMS. I look forward to contributing more to the success of Sava CMS, and to watching the project as it continues to blossom and grow.

If you are looking for an open source ColdFusion CMS, I encourage you to take a look at Sava. Not only is the product excellent, but the people behind the project - the support - are awesome!

I can second that endorsement.
I too have had the pleasure to work with Matt and the Sava Team.
They are intelligent and responsive, a pleasure to work with.
My experiences with Sava CMS were very successful.

I'll third the endorsement! I'm using Sava for a side project and have been working to get it running on Open BlueDragon, and Matt and crew have been extremely cordial and responsive.

I'm actually installing it now as a test, but have hit a completely different issue. Well, I've posted on their forum, we shall see what the response is like!

We're getting ready to launch a site running on Sava. My role has been very limited in using it, but my manager has been pushing the limits with Sava and has been very impressed with the availability and responsiveness of the Sava development team.

Can you provide some detail on what the root cause of the issue was? I've had similar issues and would be interested to know if an update would help me as well.

@ Nathan- The issue was caused by <cfpop> hanging up and ignoring timeouts when the server credentials were all set to empty strings. So checks were added to make sure that those creds are available prior to making the <cfpop> call.

I'm having trouble with the initial install, but feel that things would go smoothly if I could talk to someone.
I just sent a note to Matt Levine and I'm sure he will reply, but in the meantime, is there a Google group started or anything like that?
If not, I would volunteer to start one.

@ Phillip - I am not aware of a google group, but I would suggest the Sava forums.

I'm loving Sava so far, but for anybody who gets inspired by the above, they had to change their name to Mura, so replace Sava with Mura in all the links above. New threads in the forums are still responded to very quickly. So now go to:

http://www.getmura.com
the forums for support:

the API for figuring stuff out on your own once you get installed and want to start tweaking things:
